Do you realise that you have a divine-self? We all do, and this divine-self exists beyond all duality and therefore beyond birth and death. But if you are a divine-self, how come you now find yourself in a physical body that has to die? Why have you chosen to become a little ‘me’ self that can die and lose absolutely everything?
If you are the Buddha or the Christ, why are you down here suffering so much? What on earth are you doing to yourself? If you can get sick, or suffer excruciating physical or emotional pain, how can you possibly be divine? How can you have a self that dies and a self that does not die? Are Buddha and Christ lying to you? Are their teachings fake?
Actually, the Buddha spent most time teaching about our false-self, rather than our eternal divine-self. His teachings were always very practical, rather than metaphysical. Asking whether you are really divine or not, is not a very practical question. It is far better to learn who you truly are through direct experience than to torture your mind with unanswerable metaphysical questions. But I can tell you categorically that your true-self is unchanging and permanent, whereas your false-self or egoic self is totally impermanent and subject to constant change.
