The Art of Reflection
Do you learn from the lessons life presents to you, or do you keep on repeating the same mistakes?
We all can benefit from a regular contemplative practice, where you sit quietly, with a still mind, and reflect on an aspect of your life that is unsatisfactory, unrewarding, painful even. This could be in the area of finances, career, relationships, health.
For any circumstance that you have chosen to examine, there are really only three choices:
– Accept it
– Change it
– Walk away from it.
Can you accept the job you hate, change the lifestyle that is depressing you, walk away from a hurtful relationship?
Once you have made a decision about it, you are at peace. If you choose to accept the situation that seemingly is unsatisfactory, you are changing how you perceive it, and inner conflict disappears. Perhaps you choose to continue working in a company that can’t deliver to your expectations, so you change your expectations.
Making a choice is important because you are not then fighting yourself by continuing to do what you hate. You are doing what you have chosen to do.
Contemplation requires a mature and reasoned approach. Ditch the blame and self-pity, and mindfully and calmly consider what is best for you, your life and fulfilment. Choose wisely, and enjoy the peace it brings.
