When you are practising Primary Standing Like a Tree do not just stand still and get bored ‘doing nothing’. Although your body might be still, you have a lot to do!
First, breathe through five points: the bubbling springs under the soles of your feet, the centre of your palms and your dantien. I call this ‘Five Point Breathing’.
Next, draw energy up from the earth and down from a Golden Sun above your crown, until you feel very alive.
As you go through the sequence keep filling up with cosmic energy and light. Don’t think that you are just standing in a static position. Think of your whole being becoming illuminated with a higher light.
As you bring two balls of light down through your knees, make sure that you root down into the earth. Screw down into the earth through your stance and pull power up from the earth to support and empower your whole being.
Next, hold the Golden Sun at your dantien, and breathe consciously, with a relaxed but strong focus and without thinking too much. Do not let your lower mind wander off to fantasise about the past or the future. Keep pulling it back to your breath and the present moment throughout the exercise.
As you raise your arms up to the side of your heart, feel the earth’s energy rising up through your spine and the higher light pouring down your spine, and utilise all this energy to open and strengthen your heart centre.
As you become familiar with this exercise and get stronger physically and energetically, you can hold a lot of radiant chi throughout your system, and you can also hold the light to illuminate your whole being.
As you turn your palms over to face the earth, hold your awareness at the back of your heart centre to open and strengthen it.
At the end of this sequence, spend a few minutes pushing the chi into your dantien so that you do not become ungrounded. At the end of all Infinite Chi Kung sequences, you should always store the energy and make sure that you are well grounded, or you will have no real power, or sense of security in this world.
When we are well grounded and our energy body is strong and open, we can open our hearts and calm our minds much more effectively.
