No matter how difficult most of your childhood may have been, you can still probably remember at least one moment of perfect innocence and joy. Please capture this moment in your memory. Go back in your mind until you reach a point in your early childhood when you were still un-programmed and free – with no fixed ideas about sex, religion, politics etc. Perhaps you were four or five years of age playing in the garden, running down a beach to the sea, or opening your presents on Christmas morning. Capture that moment of radiance and innocence, and hold it in your mind throughout the Golden Child Meditation. If you really cannot remember even one moment of perfect innocence and joy, just imagine being a totally innocent joyful child like this.
If you think about it, you will realise that now, as an adult, you are not perfectly happy moment by moment. You no longer fully and openly celebrate the wonder of life. This closing up against life is the price we all pay for becoming normal adult human beings. It is so rare to meet a person with the wisdom of an adult, but the purity and wonder of a child. Someone like this is as rare as a morning star!
Most adults are at least mildly anxious or depressed most of the time, but if you say to them ‘Why are you always so anxious?’ they cannot tell you. If you say to them, ‘Your constant worry and anxiety are costing you your health and your life’, they do not want to believe you. Sometimes, when you observe human existence, you cannot help but realise that a lot of our existence is unbearably painful.
You may not experience being in real pain all of the time, but you are usually in a mild state of fear or anxiety. You are too sophisticated and suspicious. You are even a little bit paranoid. You have forgotten what it is like to be truly joyful with tremendous, natural, uninhibited curiosity and excitement about life and happy expectations for the future. I still see all this in some small children’s eyes, but sadly I do not see it in many adult’s eyes. Mainly, when I look into the eyes of an adult, I see only fear, hurt, suspicion, or disappointment.
On an energetic level, a young child’s eyes usually shine with light. Children open their eyes with wonder at the world around them. Most very young children have not yet been socialised to see a threatening world around them. But when you look into the mirror, you no longer see innocence and bright eyes filled with wonder, you see a sad, tense adult.
Young children still have tremendous amounts of Jing or physical essence. They are naturally bursting with energy, and in some of them, we can even see an angelic presence in their eyes. You can very often see sheer natural beauty and vitality in children, but you very rarely see this in an adult. It is so beautiful to be with young children when they are still open and in love with the world, and you can witness their innocence and brightness. This is ‘The Golden Child’ that we all need to re-experience.
Adults are well programmed to be defensive, whereas young children are still un-programmed and free. Try to return to this state of wonder and innocence on a daily basis. If you can get in touch with your primordial innocence and radiance, you can heal and rejuvenate your whole system. As an adult, you are too shy to express your full aliveness, but getting in touch with this aliveness is internal work – no one will see you!
If you are already reasonably fit and well, doing this meditation can assist you to become much more radiant, and to neutralise all your toxic anxiety.
When you can consciously connect to your innocent golden child, you do not just survive, you begin to thrive. On a physical level, all your internal organs will become stronger. On the emotional level, you will transcend all your fears. On the mental level, you will recapture your essential optimism and inner joy.
Eventually, if you keep practising this meditation, you will be filled with inner light, and this light will naturally extend outwards to illuminate the world around you. Alternatively, you can utilise this inner light as an incredibly powerful healing tool for your own healing and growth.
If you repeat this meditation every day for 21 days, you will increase your inner power by at least 100 percent. You will also significantly increase your personal vitality, powers of focus and concentration, and levels of inner peace, tranquillity and happiness.
