Rather than take full responsibility for their own happiness – or lack of it – they would far rather carry on being the innocent victim of a wicked external world.
As we begin to awake spiritually, and to take responsibility for our own happiness, we can easily fall into the trap of beating ourselves up for not being peaceful and loving at all times. But simply smiling at yourself, and seeing the funny side of all of your endless moodiness, can save you a lot of time.
You cannot spend 12 hours a day meditating – not if you have a living to make, or a family to look after. So please don’t meditate for an hour a day and then hate the rest of your life. What a horrible way to live! Insist that life can be beautiful, funny and enjoyable and then demonstrate this to others. You can actually experience a natural high simply sharing laughter with others. Or go out into nature on a very regular basis and drink in the beauty of a tree, or the joy of a bird on the wing.
If you insist that you need another special person in your life to make you happy, you are basically their slave. So, you have to keep practising until you are ‘in love’ al of the time regardless of whether you are with a loving partner, or whether or not the sun is shining.
